About

The East End Transportation Council (EETC) represents a coordinated effort to address transportation issues on the East End of Long Island. Both planning and elected officials from the East End towns of East Hampton, Riverhead, Shelter Island, Southampton and Southold, as well as the incorporated villages of East Hampton, Greenport, North Haven, Sagaponack, Sag Harbor, Southampton, and Westhampton Beach meet regularly to forward a shared vision that promotes the use of mass transit and the preservation of its hamlets, agricultural lands, and natural resources.

After the completion of the Sustainable East End Development Strategies (SEEDS) report, the EETC retained the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center, a branch of the U.S. Department of Transportation, to study the feasibility of a coordinated rail and bus operation, as well as an alternative approach to the diverse transportation needs of the East End. This study will be finished in 2009 and influence future actions undertaken by the Council.
